A homeschool curriculum for AP Computer Science Principles.
At a Glance
Advanced Computer Science Principles is a high-school homeschool course aligned to the major topics and practices associated with AP Computer Science Principles. Learn computing by designing, testing, explaining, and considering its consequences.

One hidden prerequisite can swallow the whole semester.
This course needs college-level math with prerequisite gaps surfaced before they derail the year. We use placement, targeted practice, and mentor feedback to keep the foundation connected to the advanced work.
Families need both a broad computing course and a disciplined Create project process. Copying tutorials or producing code without explanation does not build the required evidence.
We keep procedures, graphs, explanations, and corrections visible enough to show what the student understands; a high average should not hide a weak foundation.

A Course-Defining Project
Design a small program for a real user, test it with evidence, revise it, and explain the algorithmic choices without relying on the code to speak for itself.
How the Week Works
Concept investigations and short programs build toward a protected project window with explicit originality and artifact requirements.
Check the Prerequisites Before You Commit
No prior programming course is required, but students need regular computer access and the maturity to document original work carefully.
Before the year starts, confirm how the required work and assessment access fit the current process. Use College Board's homeschool provider guidance and homeschool exam FAQ.
Questions Parents Ask About Computer Science Principles
How does our AP Computer Science Principles course work?
Our Advanced Computer Science Principles course combines direct teaching, guided practice, mentor feedback, and visible evidence. The project is organized around this kind of work: Design a small program for a real user, test it with evidence, revise it, and explain the algorithmic choices without relying on the code to speak for itself. Aristotle teaches the lessons and gives feedback while there is still time to improve the work. Our placement check surfaces missing algebra or function skills before the advanced pace accelerates.
How is Advanced Computer Science Principles personalized?
Our starting-point check looks for the prerequisites behind creative development and data before the pace picks up. We use that evidence to give more practice where the work shows confusion and move ahead when the student is ready. The goal is not to make Computer Science Principles easier; it is to keep an avoidable gap from blocking the advanced work.
Who teaches the course and gives feedback?
Our weekly plan follows this rhythm: Concept investigations and short programs build toward a protected project window with explicit originality and artifact requirements. Aristotle stays with the student inside that work, explaining a difficult passage or problem, asking for the reasoning behind an answer, checking understanding, and responding to submissions. That keeps teaching and feedback inside the course instead of making the parent the daily lecturer or grader.
What does the parent dashboard show?
The platform keeps the learning path, completed lessons, scores, mentor feedback, and the work behind the grade visible, including computing-innovation investigations; original program code and demonstration video; a carefully prepared personalized project reference. Weekly reports provide a quick check-in, while the parent dashboard keeps attendance, assessments, and finished work available for a closer look.
What starting point does Computer Science Principles need?
How do AP exam or portfolio logistics work for homeschoolers?
AP Computer Science Principles combines an end-of-course exam with Create performance-task materials submitted through the AP Digital Portfolio. Families must coordinate both parts through an AP coordinator; this curriculum does not register or submit either component for the student.
Can this course appear as “AP Computer Science Principles” on a transcript?
Framework alignment and AP Course Audit authorization are different things. We publicly title this course Advanced Computer Science Principles. Parents issue the homeschool transcript, but the AP name should only be used when the course itself has completed the College Board AP Course Audit. We keep the completed work, feedback, scores, and course record together so you can document the course accurately.
